Training advice and problem prevention

Dogs are never too young, or old, to start training! Because dogs are always learning, teaching a dog that certain behaviour results in good things happening means they’ll be more likely to behave that way again. It is preferable to telling them off or punishing them for bad behaviour, which can cause them to become fearful and aggressive.

Training your dog is an important part of being a responsible owner, because it can prevent unwanted behaviour problems developing.

The Dogs Trust website has some great advice available, including guidance for training principles, learning the basics, out and about, around other people and places, in the home, and extra training and tricks.

Dogs Trust also has some great online videos for you to watch, covering many topics such as training your dog to come back when called, stopping jumping up, preventing aggression over food, how to ensure they are happy when left alone, and stopping chewing and mouthing.
